Mrs. Guenda Redd, age 73, of Fort Worth, Texas passed away on Saturday, August 30th, 2025.
Guenda Joyce Thomas was born April 15, 1952, in Fort Worth, Texas. She was the third child of eight siblings born to Richard and Rhoda Thomas.
Guenda began her spiritual journey with the Lord under the leadership of Reverand Albert E. Chew at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she started her musical ministry by singing solos in the gospel choir. She learned to play the piano at an early age, which led to the formation of a family choir. Singing gospel music brought her great joy. Gwen, as we called her, was often requested to sing at many churches for various occasions. Later, she became the First Lady of Valley Missionary Baptist Church after marrying Reverend James Redd Jr. She served on different auxiliaries and committees. However, singing in God's choir gave her inspiration. It became her ministry.
After her husband's death, she joined the New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Marcus McDonald. She served her church faithfully until the Lord called her home. Guenda loved her pastor and church friends, and they loved her, checking on her to the very end. But most of all, she loved the Lord.
Guenda began her education on the Northside at Kirkpatrick Elementary & Kirkpatrick Jr./Sr. High School. However, she graduated from Green B. Trimble Technical High School in 1970. As a student, she acquired a talent for playing her beloved French Horn and marched in the marching band. Aspiring to attain higher education, Guenda attended Texas Women's College in Denton, Texas, where she completed two years of school. Later, Guenda gained employment at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, and worked in the tool crib as a Specialist for many years until her retirement. During this time, she met and married Reverand James Wagner Redd Jr. He was the love of her life. She was devoted to him until his death on April 8, 2018.
As a loving mother, they both raised a son, Kyle Thomas. There is nothing that can compare to a mother's love, no limits, walls or boundaries.
Guenda enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, bowling, and eating out, listening to gospel music and internet shopping. She liked pretty things. She loved to play the piano with her niece, as she often did. She relished spending time with our cousin Eva Williams. They were foodies and enjoyed watching movies, cooking, hanging out or doing nothing at all. When she wasn't with Eva, Guenda spent time at her grandchildren's sporting events and other school functions. They enjoyed each other's company.
Because of her grandkids, she was never lonely. She had a smile that could light up a room.
Saturday night, (August 30, 2025), with a praise in her heart, the Lord called Guenda from her earthly home to eternity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Rhoda Thomas; her husband, James Redd Jr.; and brother Fred Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memories; Son, Kyle Thomas (Dawn), Brothers; Donnahue Thomas (Gloria), Lee Chester Thomas, Sisters: Minnie Harris (James), Elma Allen (Michael), Donna Wilson, Tammy Crawford (Elvin), Grandchildren; Kayla and King Thomas, (Mother of the children Maria), Alexis, Sage, Romeo, Madison, Donte, (Kyle Step-Father of children) and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
