peacefully on August 2, 2024. Born on August 24, 1933, Horace lived a life full of love,
service, and dedication.
Horace graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1951 and went on to attend
Arlington State College (now known as UTA). After serving in the United States Air Force, he
returned to college on the GI Bill and attended The University of Houston. A lifelong learner,
Horace also attended Texas Wesleyan College and Tarrant County Junior College later in
life.
Horace specialized in Architecture Design & Drafting, working at General Dynamics before
creating his own business, Hooper Design Services, which he successfully ran for over 40
years. He continued working until the age of 88, demonstrating his passion and dedication
to his craft.
A true servant of God, Horace was a lifelong churchgoer and a member of Alvarado Church
of Christ since 2004. He was passionate about preaching the gospel and studying the word
of God. Horace was also the creator and member of the gospel quartet, The Keynote
Singers, and collaborated on new Bible translations with a close friend and mentor.
Horace was dedicated to helping the elderly and shut-ins, volunteering for Meals on
Wheels for over 20 years. He enjoyed planning social events and parties in his
neighborhood, bringing people together with his warm and generous spirit.
An avid sports fan, Horace was a very successful Golden Gloves boxer and actively
participated and coached in the Everman Little League association.
Known affectionately by the nickname “The Snickerdoodle Guy,” he loved sharing cookies
with neighbors, city services workers, the mail carrier, local businesses, and many more to
bring a smile to their faces and make their day just a little brighter.
Horace enjoyed making his own greeting cards, gift certificates, and he promoted the
“Round Tuit” concept into his business cards and personal branding.
Horace’s legacy of love, service, and creativity will be remembered by all who knew him.
His life was a testament to his faith, his dedication to his community, and his unwavering
love for his family and friends.
Horace was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Sherman II and Lena Hooper, his
sister Jo Ann Grisham, and his loving wife of 43 years, Nelda B. Hooper.
He is survived by his three sons, Mark Hooper (Shamarie), Lynn Hooper, and Monty
Hooper; four bonus children, Steven Livingston, Darrell Livingston (Lisa), Shelley Goebel
(Jimmy), and LaGatha Baxter (Russell); 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
