Ina Mae “Mickey” Brown Queton entered her heavenly home on December 8, 2017 at the age of 89. She was born January 20, 1928 in Seminole, OK to Lucy Tiger and Siah Brown. She was a proud full blood member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma
She attended school at Chilocco Indian Agricultural School and graduated in 1947. After graduation, she lived with her music teacher Ms. Flodelle Dyer and worked at the school. In 1948, she met and married Melvin Queton, who was working at Chilocco following WWII combat service. Following their marriage, the couple departed Chilocco and moved to the Esteban Queton family allotment east of Mountain View, OK. In 1956, the family made the decision to move to Fort Worth, TX. Mickey always proudly stated the family settled in Fort Worth through their own hard work and money without any help of the government relocation program. Mickey worked at Harris Methodist Hospital and Melvin worked at Bell Helicopter. Together they were blessed with four children, Bruce, Hilton, Renee, and Clifton. The family were active members of the Dallas-Fort Worth Indian community, making many friends from different tribes, working and supporting other native families and maintaining their cultural identity in an urban environment.
She was the matriarchal heart and soul of the family who touched the lives of those she met. She was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. Many know she is an avid Dallas Cowboys football fan, never missing the Cowboy game on Sunday afternoons. She enjoyed camping, traveling, writing letters, cooking, and visiting with family and friends. Her favorite pastime was sitting on her front porch watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren play in her front yard.
She is survived by her children, Bruce Queton of Burleson, TX, Hilton Queton and wife Laura of Round Rock, TX, Renee Queton-Morgan of Crowley, TX and Clifton Queton and wife Rae of Crowley, TX; one sister Rosetta Pebworth of Seminole, OK; grandchildren John, Brian, Warren, Danielle, Shawnea, Lance, Melvin; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Queton of 45 years; brothers Amos Brown and Legus Clark; sisters Louise Jones, Agnes Nero, Christine B Harjo, Liz Jones.
The family thanks everyone for the kind words of condolence, prayers and encouragement expressed to the family during this time of bereavement. Services will begin with a visitation at the funeral home on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 6-8pm. Funeral will commence at 10am on Friday, December 15, 2017.
