Born on May 24, 1950, in Alice, Texas, she was the beloved daughter of Oralia Barrera and the oldest of six children. She moved to Chicago in the late 1960s and returned to her home state of Texas in the 1990s. She retired as a housekeeper from John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
Irma was a mother to 7 children, a cherished grandmother to 23 and a proud great-grandmother to 13. She had a passion for clipping homemade remedies, late-night Facebook binges, and watching her favorite novela – La Hija del Mariachi. Again, and again.
Irma was known for her independence, hard work, accountability, focus on education, warm smile, and forgiving and caring nature. She touched the lives of many with her generosity, wisdom and support.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her sisters, brothers, nephews, and nieces. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Landon; her grandson, Isaiah “Gordo” Leal; and her mother, Oralia.
