Jerry Clyde Scott, 92, affectionately known as “Grandpa” passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and cherished memories with many family and friends.
Jerry was born on March 3, 1933, in Alderson, Oklahoma, to Clyde Reeves Scott and Bessie May Kirkpatrick Scott. He graduated from Haileyville High School in 1950, where he excelled in basketball, track, and boxing.
In March 1953, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Big Spring, Texas, where he met and married Paula Lynnette Cherry. Together they built a family, first in Big Spring, Texas, then in Loma Linda, California, before returning to Snyder, Texas, and then ultimately making Fort Worth their home.
Jerry’s military service in Big Spring and San Diego with the Air Force fueled his mechanical expertise as he specialized in airplane engine maintenance. Honing his skills working on complex aviation systems, he developed a deep understanding of engines and machinery. After his honorable discharge as an Airman First Class on February 29, 1960, he transitioned seamlessly into the automotive industry, applying his technical knowledge to cars. Back in Texas, he pursued his passion by becoming a gas station owner and mechanic in Snyder, eventually expanding into multiple businesses where he built lasting friendships through his work.
Jerry also had a love and passion for golf. As a young man, he dedicated himself to providing for his family while carving out time to play golf each weekend. In retirement, Tuesdays were dedicated to golf, a tradition he shared with long-time friends, including his son-in-law Eric.
Jerry was a kind soul and always had a smile for anyone he encountered. After losing Paula, his wife of 33 years, in 1986, Jerry met and married Carolyn Kay Ray. They spent 25 wonderful years together until Kay’s passing in 2012. His oldest daughter, Rhonda, also preceded him in death in 2020.
Jerry’s memory will be cherished by his loving family: daughters Cathy Kies, Vickie Adams and husband Pat, Cindy Gunn and husband Travis; step-daughter Dana Meeks and husband Eric; grandchildren Lacy Veoukas and husband Matt, Cherry Newton and husband Marcus, Stephen Dimmitt and wife Susan, Corey Kies, Taylor Adams and wife Jessica, Parker Adams and wife Celeste, Amanda Adams, Emily Beam and husband Dave, Cate Gunn, Taylor Meeks, Samantha El Hefni and husband Khald; sisters Patsy Pettitt, Gloria Cochrum and husband Jim; brother Rick Scott and wife Jan; many nephews and nieces and their families; many great grandchildren and their families; great, great grandchildren; and multitudes of dear friends and golfing buddies.
A Funeral Service for Jerry Scott will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10am, followed by a graveside service at Laurel Land Funeral Home and Memorial Park located at 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76134.
