Jerry Wayne Thompson was born on November 18, 1953 to Alice Rebecca and John Marvin Thompson Jr. He graduated from Diamond Hill Jarvis High School in 1972 and went on to Tarrant County Community College and Stephen F. Austin State University. Jerry was an entrepreneur, a pilot, and before his death he worked in customer service at American Airlines, which he loved.
Jerry was an avid hockey fan and loved the Mudbug hockey team out of Shreveport, LA, where he lived for many years. Jerry enjoyed supporting the Mudbugs by being the secretary/treasurer of the booster club and often took his great-nephew Trey with him to the games. Jerry and Trey even had matching jerseys with numbers to mimic their favorite player. Jerry often rode on the bus with the players to their games, and led many a road trip across the nation with his team and his people.
Jerry loved to fly and travel the world. Jerry earned his private pilot’s license on May 22, 2000 and owned three planes, which he loved to use to travel the U.S. Later, after joining American Airlines, Jerry traveled to many different countries, his favorite being Dubai.
Above all, Jerry loved his family and friends. His home was often the go-to gathering place, where loved to host family gatherings, weddings, birthday parties, graduation parties, anything that would bring his people together. His door was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay. Jerry’s heart for people was truly bigger than life, and was without doubt his most defining characteristic.
Jerry passed away on April 21, 2020 and was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and John, his brother James, and sister Joyce. He is survived by his brother John and his wife Barbara, brother Kennith and his wife Suzette, brother-in-law Kenneth Potter, nephews Stephen, Greg, Brett, John, Kenny, and Kris, nieces Kimberly, Janice, Kelly, and Lynsie, and a number great-nephews and nieces that adored him.
