Jim Comer

Jim grew up in Phoenix, AZ with his Uncle and Aunt.

Jim went on to graduate from Phoenix Union High School in 1963. Jim joined the U.S. Navy January 24, 1964 stationed in San Diego, CA. Jim entered the Vietnam War in Vietnam in July 7, 1966 Jim served as an E5 Boatswain's Marc Second Class and re-directed for a second tour on September 29, 1967. Jim met and married Jerline Benson in Odessa, Texas on December 2, 1967. Jim received orders for an Overseas tour to USNS Subic Bay, R.P. until expiration when he received an Honorable Discharge on September 23, 1969. Jim and Jerline moved and resided in Odessa, Texas in October 1969. Jim excepted Christ and became a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas. Jim became employed by Getty Oil Company who was later bought out by Texaco-Chevron in October 29, 1969. He worked for Texaco-Chevron as a lease operator but later became a plant mechanic shortly after Texaco-Chevron transition. Jim retired from Texaco-Chevron after 30 years of service on January 1, 1999. Jim joined Southside Post 6717 as a member in 1984 and later became District Commander during 1993-1994. After his role of district Commander he took on the role of State Chairman Community Service during 1994-1995. Jim was very active in the community. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels from 1999-2000. Jim later returned to work as a Security Guard for Ridglea Country Club from June 2015-May 2017.

Jim Comer is preceded in death by Edward Comer (father), Odessa Childress-Comer (mother), Glenda Wooten (sister), Clarence Redic (brother), Virginia Mitchell (sister), Quincy E. Allison (grandson).

He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Jerline Comer; two daughters. Anjanette Comer, Jacqueline Comer; siblings, Eddie Nealy (Alma), John Comer (Doris), Pauline Lee, Loretta Anderson (Alfred), Bessie Comer Mayes, Alfred Comer (Debbie); two grandchildren, Quinton E. Allison, Adrian Lewis; two great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
