90 yrs. and 9 months with his bedside surrounded by loving family members. Flying for the Air
Transport Comand during WWII he made over 250 round trips across the Atlantic ocean, transporting
blood plazma and urgent goods to the battle grounds and wounded soldiers back to the States. After
WWII, he flew as an Airline Capt. with TWA for over 35 years. He learned to fly Piper Cubs while in
College, and for the last 15 years of his career, he piloted 747 jets all over the world. He truly had an
illustrious career. He was an amazing person with outstanding mental capabilities and with a radiant and
positive disposition. He blessed the lives of all who knew him with his wonderful smile, kind heart,
and encouraging words. Most of all, he was a very faithful Christian! He and his wonderful wife,
Jan, after his retirement made 13 trips to Tanganyika, East Africa to do mission work with the Chimala
Mission Hospital & School, both of them learning the Swahili language. Also, they made mission excursions
to Rumania, Poland, Ukraine, and Russia. John and Jan have been faithful members of the Brown Trail
church of Christ in Bedford, Tex. for the last several years. John was the eldest son of six born to Mr. & Mrs. J.D. Boren, Sr.
He was pre-deceased by his parents and two brothers, Billy Tip Boren in infancy, and James Erwin Boren in 1990.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Jan, and by three other brothers, Jodie L. Boren and his wife Peggy,
of Hartville, Missouri; Dr. Paul G. Boren and his wife, Winnie of Kerrville, Tex.; and by Maxie B. Boren and his wife, Fran, of Fort
Worth; by James' widow, Mary Ellen Boren of Clifton, Tex., and numerous nephews and nieces. Jan wants
to especially thank all the nurses and doctors who attended John's needs, and in particular Max and Andrea
Boren, Mike and Sharon Washburn, Susan and Norman Green, Tim and Shelly Boren, Tim and Nancy Solohu-
bow, Kenny and Rachael Durost, and Maxie and Fran Boren who were "there for her" through the whole ordeal.
Though he will be sorely missed by his family and many friends, yet there is rejoicing among us for the
"victory in Jesus" John has obtained and for the Lord's promise of the heavenly home! John would want praise,
honor, and gratitude to be expressed to Almighty God for His marvelous grace and mercy bestowed through the
sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for sin. Plans call for a memorial service in John's honor to be held at the Brown Trail
church of Christ on Saturday, Jan. 29th, at 10:30 a.m. Anyone wanting to make a memorial gift in his honor is requested to donate to either
the "Truth In Love" Television program, or to the "Brown Trail School of Preaching," c/o Brown Trail church of Christ, P.O. Box 210667, Bedford, Texas 76095.
Arrangements under the direction of Shannon Rufe Snow Drive Funeral Chapel, Fort Worth, TX.
