John was raised in Coppell, TX where he attended school from Kindergarten through 12th grade. He graduated from Coppell High School in 2000. He began playing soccer at the age of 3 where he found a love for the game and later while attending Coppell High School he was an athletic trainer for the soccer team.
As a child, John spent many weekends with his grandparents. He had a special bond with his Mimi where she would take him once a week, every week for a special day between just the two of them doing anything John wanted to do. At one point she took John to see Home Alone 12 times just because that is what he wanted to do! Some weekends he would stay with his Mimi where she would make a special palette for him to sleep on, set up the Monopoly game and for 2 days they would keep the same game of monopoly going the entire weekend. When John was a young boy, he loved going to work with his granddad at his manufacturing company where he would sit on granddad's lap “driving” the forklift. At the age of 4 John was baptized at his grandparents church Tyler Street United Methodist Church.
At the age of 21, John was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease and 14 months later was the recipient of a kidney transplant. He lived a fun filled and happy life where he spent weekends hanging out with friends, riding and racing ATV’s, camping and cooking out.
For many years, John was a long haul truck driver who delivered heavy equipment and explosives for the oil industry. 8 ½ years after the transplant, unfortunately, Johns body rejected the kidney and he was put back on dialysis. For the next 10 years John spent 3 days a week receiving dialysis. He moved back in with his mom where they lived together until his passing. Kimberley took her role as a mom with grace, gentle love and support and became his ultimate caretaker. John loved her to the ends of the earth.
John was known for his kind heart, gentleness and respect of others. He was always upbeat and had a contagious sense of humor. His lifelong friend Ditty said in a text to Kimberley “You and I both know since I’ve known John he’s been a ‘momma’s boy’. He always looked up to you and spoke highly of you even when he was younger in the 90’s. John had a kind and gentle soul and charisma about him-he will definitely be missed.”
John is preceded in death by his grandparents Ed and Beth Brown.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted and loving mother Kimberley Putman; aunt and uncle Dick and Susan Rawlins; cousins Andrea Myers and Scott Rawlins and a host of extended family. He will also be greatly missed by his companion and emotional support dog Tessie whom he loved for more than 15 years.
Kimberley would like to extend her sincerest gratitude and abundance of love to the staff at US Renal Care Keller, especially “Dr. J,” (Dr. Nishant Jalandhara), Lauren and Marta. Their love and kindness to John is immeasurable.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, July 17th from 5-8pm at Shannon Rose Hill Chapel with a Celebration of Life for John will held at 11am, Thursday, July 18th. John will be laid to rest with his grandparents at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park at 12:30pm. Pastor Nathan Tucker will be officiating the services
