Johnnie Merle Hamm

Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at Burleson Church of Christ, 1150 NW John Jones Drive in Burleson. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Fort Worth.

Johnnie was born March 18, 1935, in Longview to Johnnie E. and Nita Westbrooks Hamm. Dad spent his youth in various Texas towns and graduated from Whiteface. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served four years aboard the USS Lexington. He spent his time as a clerk working in the chaplain's office. He worked for the United States Postal Service for more then 30 years. Upon retirement he still felt the need to stay busy and held many part-time positions over the years. He spent the last few years spending time with the grandkids after school, helping his family and caring for others.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Hamm, and his parents.

Survivors: His son, Johnny Lee Hamm and wife, Angie Hamm; grandchildren, Kenidee and Parker Hamm; Mary Kaye Hamm Largent, husband Joe, grandchildren Nathan, Nick, Anela, and Celina; Sherry Carter and family, Lanita Vick and family, Davona Leach and family; stepchildren, Lynn Conally and Kim Wagner; grandchildren, Austin McCoy, Shaelyn and Ashley Wagner; brother and sister-in-law, Al and Sis Schreiner, Milton Schreiner, Mark and Charlene Schreiner, Richard and Iris Odom, and Barabara Schreiner,
