J.R. Ross

Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel. Interment: 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel.

J.R., a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, was born Nov. 13, 1921, in Fort Worth to John Rufus Ross and Mary Malone Ross. J.R. married Eva Lena Hinkle on Nov. 1, 1941, in Seguin. He was a veteran of World War II, involved at the Battle of the Bulge, the Normandy invasion and later the Korean War, and he received the Purple Heart.

J.R. loved spending time with his family, woodworking and barbecuing. He was a member of the Second (Indianhead) Division Association and was a master Mason with the Grand Lodge of Texas A.F.& A.M.

J.R. was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Lena, and daughter, Janice Nicole "Nicky" Ellis.

Survivors: Sons, Michael Raymond Ross and wife, Pamela, of Wilmington, N.C., and Jon Randall Ross and wife, Deirdre, of Austin; daughters, Judith Sharon Spain of Chester, Va., Audrey Susan Buchanan of North Richland Hills and Mary Beth Leamon and husband, Garry, of Fort Worth; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
