Lonzo Deckard was born July 30, 1930, to Jesse and Lizzie Deckard, in the community of Bethlehem, Texas. He attended Ozion High School and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Lonzo met his high school sweetheart, Ruthie Mae Scott, they shared the same school, same church and was baptized at the same time. Lonzo and Ruthie married in 1950 while living in Waco, TX, then moved to Fort Worth, TX in 1953 and united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a faithful member of the deacon board until his health declined.
On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, God selected a beautiful flower to place in his heavenly garden. Those left to cherish his love, life lessons, and precious memories are his baby sister Martha Johnson (Waco, TX); One son; J D Deckard (Brenda); Two daughters; Vernell and Shirley Deckard; Six grandchildren; Jesse Deckard, Lametra Deckard, Robert Deckard (Ashley), Marcus Deckard (Gwynisha), Lachelle Bracey (Arthur), and Daron Foster ; Fourteen great-grandchildren, Seven great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
