With bittersweet sorrow and deep love, we announce the passing of Sergeant First Class (SFC) Loya M. Mallory, U.S. Army (Retired), who returned to our Lord for eternal rest on August 16, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on February 8, 1943, SFC Mallory was the beloved son of Othella Hartwell and Monroe Mallory. He dedicated his life to faith, family, and service to his country and community.
Military Service
SFC Mallory graduated from Winn Parish High School. He soon enlisted as an infantryman in the United States Army, serving with pride for 20 years, from 1960 until his retirement in 1980. As a true warrior and patriot, he completed two tours of duty in Vietnam, exhibiting courage, leadership, and unwavering devotion to his fellow soldiers. He was awarded several honors throughout his distinguished career, including the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star with Valor, and the Purple Heart. These awards reflect his steadfast commitment to honor, duty, and the defense of the freedoms we hold dear.
Civilian Career
After retiring from the Army, he dedicated himself to a second career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked diligently from 1982 until 2005. Known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and dedication, he earned the respect and admiration of both his colleagues and community members.
Faith and Community
SFC Mallory was above all a man of God and a devoted follower of Christ. As an Associate Pastor and Christian Family Life Church Ministry member, he continued to serve actively long after his formal retirement. He took every opportunity to spread the gospel and testify to others through acts of generosity, encouragement, and prayers that uplifted the downtrodden. He oversaw and participated in numerous food drives to support the underprivileged, living out his faith through action and compassion. His kindness, generosity, and devotion to the Lord touched the lives of countless individuals.
Family
SFC Mallory was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Birgit Mallory. They married in Germany on January 22, 1976, and moved to the United States shortly thereafter. For nearly 50 years, they nurtured their bond through unwavering love and devotion. Together, they placed God and Christ at the center of their lives, drawing strength from their faith as they navigated life's journey. This strong foundation strengthened their relationship and guided them in raising a family, emphasizing the importance of love, kindness, and compassion.
Throughout the decades, they built a life filled with shared dreams, laughter, and cherished memories, standing by each other through every challenge and celebration life presented.
He was a proud and loving father to six wonderful children: Nicole, Janis, Marcel, Kevin, Marsha, and Marlon. His family will cherish his legacy, which includes a delightful total of fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. They will remember him as an exceptional father, a devoted husband, and an endless source of wisdom, encouragement, and heartfelt love. He truly touched their lives.
Legacy
He will be remembered as a soldier, a servant, and a shepherd—a warrior in battle, a devoted member of his community, and a loving guide to his family. A loyal friend to many, his relationships blossomed from childhood through his military service, his work in the postal service, and his dedication to the Lord and service to his church. His life stands as a testament to honor, faith, and love, inspiring all who knew him to carry forward his legacy.
Funeral Service & Interment
A funeral service to celebrate the life of SFC Loya M. Mallory will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Laurel Land Funeral Home, located at 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, TX 76134.
Following the service, interment will take place at 1:15 p.m. at Dallas–Fort Worth National Cemetery, located at 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211 where SFC Mallory will receive full military honors in recognition of his faithful service to his country.
A repast will follow at Laurel Land Funeral Home, where family and friends are invited to gather in fellowship and remembrance.
