Mabel Lucille Long was born on August 13, 1943 in Fort Worth, Texas. She met and married Bennie Long, Jr in 1959. Three children were born from their union, Debra, Bennie, and Carolyn.
Mabel, lovingly known as "Granny" or "GG", passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025 surrounded by family who loved her deeply. She was 81 years old and left this world just as she lived it- on her own terms and with love all around her.
Granny was funny, sharp, and always real. You never had to guess how she felt- she'd tell you straight with a look or a word that said it all. Her love was different- deep, loyal, and unforgettable. She might have always shown it in the ways people expected it, but if you knew her, you knew she loved for real.
She was strong, proud, and unapologetically herself. She taught us how to stand up for ourselves, how to keep going even when it's hard, and how to love people in a way that sticks with them forever. Whether it was sitting with her on quiet days, watching her famous westerns, listening to her stories, or just being in her presence, Granny made a lasting impact on everyone around her.
Mama will forever be missed by her three children, Debra Jones (James), Bennie Long, Carolyn Long; her sisters, Bobbie Simmons, Royce Walker-Jackson, Allie Walker-Aybar; her brothers, Roderick Walker and Carlton Walker; best friend, Alice Mae Robinson; 11 grandchildren, Nicole Smith (Eric), Carlton Long (Monette), Dominic (Tabrica), Herbert Long (La Keea), Charles Long (Toni), Marcus Person, Sonya Urdy, Whitney Jones, Eric Thomas, Melanie Mason, Tawana Malone; 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; along with countless friends and loved ones who will carry her memory for it with the love and laughter.
Mama was proceeded in death by her mother, Lee Anna Mosley; father, Roger B. Walker; grandparents, Lewis and Mabel Meeks; son-in-law, James Jones; and granddaughter Keonna Long.
We gathered to honor the legacy of a woman who was one of a kind- real, funny, strong, and full of love.
