Mada Lavina King

Funeral: Thursday, July 7 in Laurel Land Funeral Home Chapel of the Chimes,

7100 Crowley Rd, Fort Worth, TX. Visitation at 10:00 a.m., with funeral immediately following at 11:00 a.m.

Mada was born May 9, 1924 in Fort Worth, TX to James Everett and Maggie May Pope, the youngest of five children. She was a 1941 graduate of Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth and held many jobs including Worth Cotton Mills, the telephone company, Montgomery Ward catalog department, office nurse for Dr. Howard Ditto, and nurse for Dr. Henry Benner. She retired to Alba, TX in 1981 and moved to Boyd, TX in 2014 to be closer to family.

Mada married Harvey Wilkins King, Jr. on November 9, 1941 in Emory, TX. Together they raised five children while living in Fort Worth, TX: Harvey James King, Mada Carol Reed, Nancy Kay Johnson, Richard Weldon King, and Bonny Christine King.

She was a vivacious and loving Christian woman. In 1956, Mada and her family were members of Vickery Blvd. Church of Christ and were an instrumental part of the founding of Christ’s Haven for Children in Keller, TX. She was a long-time member of the Alba Church of Christ and more recently the Boyd Church of Christ. She was a member of Polytechnic 420 Order of the Eastern Star and an Auxiliary of the VFW.

She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Mada was known as Grandma to her grandchildren, and by her own choice, as Crazy Grandma to the younger generations. She never missed anyone’s birthday or an opportunity to gather with family. She enjoyed playing cards, other games and loved going to the boat. She was an animal lover and always had dogs.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Christ’s Haven for Children, 4200 Keller-Haslet Road, Keller, Texas 76244, or to a charity of your choice.

Survivors: Daughter, Carol Reed and husband Terry of Jacksboro, TX, daughter Nancy Johnson and husband Gary Don of Decatur, TX, Grandsons Robert Reed and wife Brenda of Weatherford, TX and Tim Reed and wife Amanda of Boyd, TX, granddaughters Christy Peebles and husband Mark of Houston, TX, Kelly Guerrero and husband Zeke of Azle, TX, and Misty Pena and husband Paul of North Richland Hills, TX, twelve great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

Preceded by: Parents, James Everett and Maggie May Pope, brother Raymon Pope, sisters Lillian Ardoyno, Iris Hunter, and Vivian Douglas, husband Harvey King, sons Harvey James King and Richard King, and daughter Bonny King.
