

Born Marjorie Francine Morrow in Wardville, OK, to Maurice Hayes Morrow and Lillie Fay Denny Morrow, Ms. McLendon was preceded in death by her younger sister Maurice Le Morrow Ashley.
She graduated from Limestone Gap High School in 1942. In 1946, she earned an Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of Alpha Phi International Women’s Fraternity. She furthered her education at Texas Western College, achieving a Master of Arts degree in 1954.
She and Wilbur Raymond Reid met on a bus trip in Oklahoma at the conclusion of WWII and instantly fell in love. They married March 8, 1946 in Oklahoma City and became the proud parents of Charles Morrow Reid in 1948. Wilbur preceded her in death in 1963.
Following Wilbur’s death, she married Norwood McLendon. They divorced in 1977.
Over a 35-year career with the Fort Worth Independent School District, Ms. McLendon educated thousands of Fort Worth’s students in Business classes at Northside High School, Trimble Technical High School and Eastern Hills High School.
Subsequent to her teaching career, she started a successful bail bonds company. Along with a friend whom she hired to help, the two became known around the Fort Worth Courthouse as the “Grandmother Bailbondswomen.”
Active for almost 70 years with Handley and Meadowbrook United Methodist Churches, Ms. McLendon attended services, participated in bible study, Sunday School, and taught citizenship classes to recent immigrants to the United States. She was proud to see 50 of these students receive citizenship.
Ms. McLendon is survived by her son, Charles Morrow Reid (Rosa Navejar of Fort Worth), grandsons Charles Keller Reid (and wife Karen Lang Reid) of Dallas, David Hyden Reid (and partner Philip Hinkle) of Washington, DC, and William Eric Reid (and husband Geoffrey Bridges) of New York City, great-granddaughters Whitney and Caroline Reid of Dallas, nieces Pamela Reid Montegut of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Anita Jean Leitner of Denver, and Cynthia Reid Ball of Plano, Glynda Ashley Cason of Wagoner, OK, nephews Louis Edwin Howe of Carrollton, GA, Don Ashley of Anchorage, AK, Randy Ashley of Maumelle, AR, and Kenneth Ashley of Benton, LA. She leaves behind dear friends Betty Rumbo, Dottie Jones and Dee Ann Drechsel, all of Fort Worth and scores of friends who remember her fondly.
