Michael Larry Goins

Born Jan.22, 1949 in Beckley, W. Va. to Ira and Kathy Goins, he spent his youth there with his beloved maternal grandparents. His father was in the Army and traveled extensively on assignment in the United States and Okinawa, Japan before finally settling in Mineral Wells, TX after his final orders took the family to Fort Wolters in the 1960s.

Highly intelligent, Mike was double-promoted twice in school and graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1965 at the age of 16. He graduated from both Weatherford Junior College and Tarrant County College and attended the University of Texas at Arlington, where he majored in mathematics.

Mike proudly served in the U.S. Navy where he excelled in training, becoming a recruit instructor. He spent most of his 10-year naval career onboard the USS Brooke, a guided missile frigate which deployed twice to the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam war. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

After leaving the Navy, Mike went to work for General Dynamics in Ft Worth. There he specialized in RADAR / RF Automatic Test equipment. He was later offered a position with General Dynamics Electronics San Diego which later became part of BAE systems. With this group he stayed in Fort Worth Texas representing BAE and became a well known and respected Senior Engineering Specialist. After 44 years, he retired in 2021.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents He is survived by his son, Charles Goins of Weatherford.and daughter Jennifer Goins-Wilson and husband Eric and his grandson Brooks Wilson all of Centreville, MD; brother Rodney Goins and wife Tracy of Rapid City, SD and brother Steven Goins of Melbourne, FL, and extended family and many friends.
