Fort Worth, Texas- Michael was born in Gallup, New Mexico. Mike was raised in the church family of First Baptist Church of Gallup. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior because of the teaching that he got in Sunday School classes, Training Union youth groups and Royal Ambassadors meetings that he regularly attended. He graduated from Gallup High School class of 1965. He played football and wrestled for the Gallup Bengals. He was a member of Key Club and the Lettermen’s Club. Mike attained Master Councilor of DeMolay.
He graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales and served in the US Army 1970-1972.
Mike worked at Kimball Foods, World Service Life, National Trucking Service, and at Health Markets as a programmer, analyst, system programmer and software specialist. He loved the educational community at Tarrant County Community Senior College where he enjoyed teaching senior adults about computers and computer applications.
Mike was passionate about America and protecting its freedoms. Mike was a well-informed citizen and exercised his right to vote. Mike was likeable and easily carried on conversations with people that he would meet as he discovered common interests. He was a late owl and stayed up until the wee hours of the morning. Mike never got in a hurry to do anything. He was known for long phone conversations. He was a patient gardener. In retirement he had taken up wood carving. He loved to fix things and had a mechanical mind. He had a tool for just about any project from automobiles to handyman repairs around the house.
His parents Carter Marvin Stenson and Louise T Stenson, and his beautiful wife of 28 years, Ruth Ann Stenson predecease him.
He is survived by his sister Suzanne (Curtis) Fortney of Granbury, Texas, stepdaughter Therese (Tom) Kirkpatrick, brother-in-law Robert (Donna) Sanborn of Maine, along with his many cousins, nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.
Mike never met a stranger; he was a good man, a good son; husband, brother, and neighbor. He was a favorite cousin. Mike was kind and generous.
A family graveside service will take place on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. A memorial service is planned for a later date. “Go Frogs!”
