Nat Valentine Sr., born on September 8, 1953, in Maryland County, Liberia, lived a life defined by resilience, dedication, and an unwavering service to his family and community.
Nat left Maryland County to pursue his studies in drafting at BWI. Through hustle and hard work, he made his way to America, arriving in Virginia in 1974, where he began his career in construction. Seeking greater opportunities, he moved to Texas in 1980. During this time, he welcomed his nieces and nephews, Hans, Joyce, Ayo, and Jackie, into his home. Nat Jr. also came from Liberia to live with his father during this period.
In 1982, Nat married Mary Valentine, and together they welcomed Dioh in 1984 and embraced Dennis Ford as a beloved son. About a decade later, his perseverance paid off as he secured a position at Tom Thumb warehouse, eventually buying a home from his hard-earned savings. In 1997, Nat married Mercie Woodson, and they celebrated the birth of their daughter Nanita on June 24, 1998. Mercie’s son, Reuben Woodson, also came from Liberia to join the family.
Nat always believed in hard work, health, and exercise. He also believed in service to the Liberian community and anyone who needed it. He helped so many people throughout his life. His career progressed as he started working at Medical City of Arlington, where his dedication saw him rise to a supervisor position. He continued his career at Arlington Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2021 after over 20 years of experience working in environmental services for the hospital.
In addition to his many accomplishments, Nat was able to build a shop in Liberia to keep his legacy alive for his children and future Valentine generations. This shop stands as a testament to his hard work, determination, and enduring love for his homeland.
Nat's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, his work, and his community. He taught the importance of kindness, generosity, and dedication. His journey from Liberia to America is a testament to his relentless spirit and determination to provide a better life for his family.
He is survived by his children: Nathaniel Valentine Jr., Dioh Valentine, Nanita Valentine, Dennis Ford, and Reuben Woodson. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other loved ones who will always remember his love and the lessons he taught.
