Oscar “Sonny” Colquitt Andrews, Jr., passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, surrounded by his wife and daughters, just one day shy of his 89th birthday.
Oscar was born on December 15, 1936, in Navarro County, Texas, to Lillian Andrews. His father, Oscar Colquitt Andrews, was killed before Oscar was born. Oscar later moved to Fort Worth and eventually Burleson, where he and Diane built a life defined by hard work, faith, and devotion to family.
At the age of 18, Oscar began his career in lineman training on a line truck while also attending Arlington State College, where he earned his associate degree in Electrical Engineering. He then began his career as a lineman with Texas Electric Service Company. He spent 38 years with the company, where his strong work ethic and leadership carried him from lineman to Assistant Manager of the West DOC Operations Center. He retired in 1992, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and professionalism, mixed with witty conversations and what many fondly referred to as “Oscarian” proverbs.
The love of Oscar’s life was his wife, Diane Andrews. The two met at Carter Riverside High School, where Oscar graduated in 1955 and Diane in 1958. They were married for 66 years and were truly best friends. Together, they loved traveling to Louisiana, gardening, and serving faithfully at Oak Grove Baptist Church, where Oscar taught Sunday School for 36 years. The friends they made there became like family.
Oscar was known for his love of building—sheds, barns, and anything that needed fixing—as well as tending his garden, proudly growing prize-worthy tomatoes, mowing on his tractor, and working outdoors. He lived by a simple philosophy that summed up the commandments in his own words: “Act pretty, don’t fall down, and find your way home.”
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Andrews; daughters Dinah Lee and Kathy Thomas; son-in-law Charles Thomas; grandchildren Fred Morton and wife Kellye Morton, Garrett Thomas and wife Jennifer Thomas, and McLaine Thomas; and great-grandchildren Sasha Morton, Nathan Morton, Denton Thomas, Lillian “Lily” Grace Thomas, and Dawson Thomas. He is also survived by many cousins, including members of the Garrett, Flannagan, and Jamison families.
Oscar will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, a faithful servant of God, and a man whose steady presence and humor touched all who knew him.
