Preston and Sammie had a custom home building business for over 40 years. They were active with the Youth and the Singles at Sagamore Hill Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School teachers and also as counselors at Camp Sagamore for over 30 years. Preston loved singing tenor in the adult choir.

He learned to operate the linotype machine as his trade and worked at the Fort Worth Press in his early career, working nights while building houses during the day. When he realized he could support his family by building houses, he went into the building business full time and built hundreds of fine homes during his career, along with the help of his beloved wife, Sammie.
Preston was an aviation student in the 2512th Army Air Force Base Unit where he was honorably discharged on 2 November 1945 at Sheppard Field, TX. He obtained his private pilot's license and even flew back and forth to Ruidoso, New Mexico to build a customer's new home. He was a proud Mason for over 60 years.
