

GRANBURY -- Retired Navy Cmdr. Richard James Giannini Sr., 90, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 31, 2014.
Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday in Laurel Land Memorial Park with full military honors. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Land Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bridgeway Health Services, Inc., 150 W. Magnolia Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76104.
Richard was born March 1, 1924, in Columbus, Ohio, to Ward Savage and Florence Mae Kuehner Giannini. He served in World War II as a pilot on the USS Hornet CV-19, flying Corsairs and in the Korean War on the USS Bon Homme Richard CV-31, where he was first the catapult officer and then a jet pilot. He retired in 1967 in Roanoke, Va. Later he moved to Ayden, N.C. He was currently living in Granbury with his eldest daughter and her husband.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to all the physicians and nurses during his stay in Fort Worth and Granbury and especially the nurses and aides of Bridgeway Hospice who were so kind and caring to Richard and the entire family during his illness.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack F. Giannini; his first wife, Edith Burman; his second wife, Doris Shepherd; and a granddaughter, Mary Ellen Paolini.
Survivors: Children, Mary E. Paolini and husband, Kenneth Sr., of Granbury, Jacqueline L. DiNubila and husband, Thomas, of Fort Worth, Richard J. Giannini Jr. and wife, Deborah Gail, of Yucca, Ariz., and Ward M. Giannini and wife, Diane Driscoll, of Bentonville, Ark.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and many other loving family members and friends.
