He was born at home on April 5, 1940 in Dallas, Texas, one of 4 sons of the late James and Lillian Nottingham.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Phillip and James, and his sister Kathleen Hanna.
He is survived by the love of his life, Jeanne Cooley. They met in 1960 and after a whirlwind romance, eloped in 1961. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his brother David Nottingham and wife Linda, his loving children, Pamela Franco and husband Kenneth, Paula Goin, and son Christopher and wife Andrea along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. The light of his life was his grandchildren, Matthew and husband Ryan, Elizabeth (“Willow”), Michael, Jonathan, Taryn and Emily.
Mike was involved in Boy Scouts before he even had a son! He assisted Jeanne’s Father’s troop, his son Chris’ troop and went camping and to summer camp with his grandson Michael several times. Mike was proud of son Chris, and grandsons Michael and Jonathan for becoming Eagle Scouts. He supported his grand daughters Girl Scout troops with large cookie purchases which he enjoyed!
Mike was always a football fan and watched the Dallas Cowboys for decades. When his children and grandchildren attended college, he then cheered on their schools. He supported TCU, UT Dallas, UT Austin, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech sometimes wearing a shirt from one school and a hat from another when the rivals played against each other.
For many years Mike was a devoted Corvette fan and owned and restored several of them. He fixed cars and engines for years and never worried about getting his hands dirty on a project.
Mike’s career was in sales and everyone who did business with him respected him for his personable nature and the fact that his handshake was his bond. He retired at age 72. After retirement, he gardened raising flowers, fruits and vegetables.
Mike loved dogs and adored his cocker spaniels. His cockers were always at his side and he laughed about them eating his strawberries and peaches before he could harvest them.
