

Roger Chapin was a caring husband, father, brother, and friend. He passed away suddenly on May 15, 2021 at age 68.
He spent his early childhood in Louisiana and Mississippi with his siblings.
He graduated from Starkville High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Management with a minor in Wildlife Management from Mississippi State University.
He went on to serve as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in the Armor-Infantry Division. During his service he received the Army Commendation Medal. Later, he served as a Captain in the Army National Guard.
Following his Army career, Roger worked on a catfish farm and later as a University catfish farm research technician. It was during this time, he met the love of his life, Rene. They were married 39 years and had one child, Lauren.
Roger also ventured into additional career paths including service as an Army Equipment Training Supervisor, employed by a third-party contractor. He was soon transferred to Texas where he later worked successfully as a car salesperson and licensed security guard, winning awards in both professions.
He was an avid outdoorsman, sports enthusiast, and devoted family man. He loved hunting and fishing and placed first, second or third in a variety of Mississippi fishing tournaments. His favorite sports teams were the Mississippi State University Bulldogs, Texas Rangers and New Orleans Saints. He also enjoyed spending time with his immediate and extended family.
Roger was a member of First Baptist Church Fort Worth where he had served as a deacon. Additional club memberships included Mississippi State Alumni Association, National Skeet Shooting Association and Lions Club. He also supported Ducks Unlimited.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents Bobie and Joan (both PH.Ds), stepmother Ruth and stepbrother Ozzie.
Roger is survived by spouse Rene, daughter Lauren (Alex), brothers/stepbrothers Larry (Julie), Russel (Barbara) and Randall (Carolyn), sister Martha, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held May 29 at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow, at the Shannon Funeral Home, 6001 Rufe Snow Dr, Fort Worth, TX 76148.
