Ronnie Bryan "Gilbo" or “Grimmace” Gilbert, age 76, passed away on October 24, 2025, in Ft. Worth, Texas. Born on February 23, 1949, in Memphis, Texas, Ronnie lived a life marked by service, devotion to family, and an unwavering spirit that touched all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Spearman High School in the Class of 1967, Ronnie began his lifelong journey of dedication and excellence by enlisting in the United States Air Force shortly after graduation. Serving with distinction for over 21 years as a loadmaster, he rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant (TSgt). His military career spanned from November 27, 1967, to January 1, 1989. During this time, Ronnie was recognized with numerous honors including the Combat Crew Member designation, Rigger certification, Master Aircrew Badge, Air Force Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and multiple Military Airlift Command (MAC) Distinguished Safety Awards.
Following his retirement from active duty, Ronnie continued to pursue excellence through education. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude from McMurry University on December 20, 1991. He later completed a Master of Education from Abilene Christian University in 1995. His passion for learning and teaching extended into his post-military life where he impacted countless students at Abilene Christian Schools and Abilene Cooper High School who affectionately knew him as “Grimmace” or “Gilbo.”
Ronnie was a man of deep faith and a devoted member of Keller United Methodist Church. His love for the Lord was evident in every aspect of his life—from his generous spirit to the joy he brought into every room he entered. He never met a stranger and was a beacon of kindness and compassion to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving wife Nancy Gilbert; sister Janice Gilbert McKinney Grubbs and her husband Tom Grubbs; daughter Tabitha Restivo and her husband Thomas Restivo; sons Ronald Gilbert and his wife Deborah Gilbert, and Micheal Gilbert and his wife Sara Gilbert. Ronnie’s legacy continues through his grandchildren Christopher Gilbert; Lexi Olvera and her husband Richey Olvera; Cade Restivo; Micheala Kirkland and her husband Caleb Kirkland; Jack Gilbert; and Kellison Gilbert; as well as great-grandchildren Isabella Medrano, Iclyn Olvera, and Hunter and Harper Kirkland. He is also survived by niece Leslie Sowell and her husband David Sowell; and great-nephew Dominick Sowell.
Ronnie has been reunited in eternal peace with his parents Jack and Thelma Gilbert; stepfather Billy George Gilbert; sister Rhonda Gilbert; grandson Jonathan Gilbert; and great-grandson Lincoln Kirkland.
Ronnie’s zest for life was evident in everything he did. A lifelong football enthusiast, he played during high school and remained a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys and THE University of Texas—Go Horns! He loved traveling the world with Nancy and sharing those adventures with family. Some of his favorite moments were spent at cookouts with loved ones, boating and fishing on lake trips, dancing the night away with Nancy and friends, or bowling in leagues over the years.
His passing leaves a void in the hearts of many—family members, friends, former students, fellow veterans—but Ronnie would want us not to dwell on sorrow. Instead, he would ask us to celebrate how he lived: with laughter that filled rooms, faith that moved mountains, and love that knew no bounds.
Those who knew Ronnie will remember his infectious smile and overwhelming laughter, his steadfast faith in Jesus Christ, and his unwavering commitment to spreading love wherever he went. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift all who carry forward his legacy.
Ronnie—your light shines brightly in our hearts. As you embrace eternity with the Lord Jesus whom you so dearly loved, we find comfort knowing your journey continues in glory. Until we meet again.
