Mr. Roy Lee Pope

Mr. Roy Lee Pope was born in Calvert, Texas on March 21, 1947. Roy was the 2nd oldest of ten children born to the late Oscar Pope, Sr. and Archie Lee Pope.

Roy passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the age of 76, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

He was baptized at an early age at the Providence Baptist Church in Calvert, Texas.

Roy completed his education as a graduate of the Class of 1965 from W. D. Spigner High School, Calvert, TX. Roy retired in 2012 from the Fort Worth Independent School District after sixteen years of employment where he worked as a custodian at R.L Paschal High School. He was also employed part-time at Angelo’s Bar-B-Que until his health begin to fail.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Roy. He loved tinkering around in his garage working on various projects while listening to music or talk radio. He enjoyed working in his yard which was meticulous kept and often did landscaping for others as a part time job. He loved just sitting around talking to family and friends, discussing and solving world issues, one conversation at a time. He had a quick wit and entertaining spirited soul contagious to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Roy enjoyed watching the TV show Pawn Stars and talking about the characters Chumlee and the old man. We think Roy enjoyed the show so much because he often visited local shops to discover new and interesting treasures to add to his collection of beloved possessions.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents Oscar Pope, Sr. and Archie Lee Pope. He leaves to cherish and honor his memory four brothers, Oscar Pope, Jr., George Pope, Ernest Pope, Billy Pope (Martha), five sisters, Margaret Nell Pope, Canarie Pope, Mildred Pope, Joyce Davis (Chris) and Shelia Lollie (Claude), two uncles, one aunt and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
