Sarah Louise, the 1 of 3 girls, was born May 12, 1933 to Gus Jenkins and Aretha Collier Jenkins. This marriage was terminated when she was 6 years old. Sarah was reared by her father and step-mother, Ella Mae Jenkins. As she always said, when God made her step-mother, He threw the mold away. She attended Marshall ISD and graduated from. Pemberton High School, in the top 10% of her class.
She later met, and married Otis Swift in October, 1952 and remained for 53 years, until God called him home on December 8, 2005. To this union 3 children were born. She helped in rearing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with school work, and activities that were many. She loved children, always picking them up for school, and also carrying them to and from football games, etc.
She was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, currently known as New Bethel CIC. For many years she worked in Sunday School, BTU, the Children's Department, and sung in the Senior Choir. She joined Greater Stephens First Church in October, 1988. She was a leader of the newly organized XYZ Ministry (Matured Adults) for a number of years, a pillar of the Church, a faithful member of Rubie H. Brown Sunday School Class, and the Rufus Williams choir, until her health declined.
Her parents, husband, her sisters, Josephine Cole and Vera Taylor, her brothers, Winston Bush and Gregory Jenkins, a grand-son, DeMarcus Swift, special cousins, Fannie Mae Davis and Doris Paul, a god-daughter, Nobbie Ferguson precedes her in death.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.gwspencerdirs.net for the Swift family.
