Sheila was born April 15, 1948, in Bangor, Maine. Her family moved many times with the military and father’s job changes. She started school in Austin, Texas, then State Line, Pennsylvania, and back to Ft. Worth. There were schools in Ohio and finally able to finish high school in one place, Conestoga High School, Berwyn, Penn. She attended one year college at ACU, Abilene, Texas.
Sheila trained and became a TWA stewardess, flying international. Her son Michael Piontek was born in 1971 and she was a mother and homemaker from then on. She moved back to Texas in the early ‘90’s. She met John Miller and they married 9/19/99. Sheila and John were happily matched in religion and hobbies; they both loved flea markets and antiques.
Sheila was also an artist and jewelry designer. Everyone knows she carried a jeweler’s loupe and loved gemstones. Making jewelry was a way for her to give joy to others and she shared generously.
Four years ago, she was diagnosed with Stage 3 Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Like other illnesses she had overcome, this was just one more—but a lot more serious. Her positive attitude and the care giving of John kept her going and seeking a cure. The cancer did spread and on Thursday night, January 9, 2014, the cancer won.
Sheila Miller is survived by her husband John Miller; her son Michael Piontek and wife Michelle. Her sisters Karen Mason Fruzia (Richard) and Sharon Mason Holland (Robert); grand-daughter Kara Piontek; step-children Jeff Miller (Laura), Joe Miller (Trish), Elizabeth Miller; cousins, nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren. She is preceded by her parents, Mark and Ruby Mason.
