

Shelton was born April 25, 1935 to the late Ulysses and Jimmie Lee Givens in Bonham, TX. He was the youngest of five siblings.
He attended Booker T. Washington High School and Prairie View A&M. He was active in football. Shelton pursued a career in plumbing but later discovered his true passion was barbering. The Shelton Givens Barbershop was opened in Downtown Fort Worth; he was a barber for over 51 years recognized by the Fort Worth Weekly, Star-Telegram and Fort Worth Texas Magazine. It was an old fashioned, classic barbershop with shaves. Customers left with a smile and a great cut. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling to Las Vegas and playing the lottery in hopes of financially taking care of his entire family. Shelton was a fun loving, thoughtful and sociable man, he loved telling stories and making others laugh. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He married his soul mate Eunice June Mitchell and of that union was born Daryl Deon and Shelby Sharlon. They celebrated 51 years of marriage on February 26.
He was a member of East Saint Paul Church for many years. He officially gave his life to Christ in 2002.
On Monday, February 29, 2016 Shelton leaped in the arms of Jesus. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers E.J. Givens, Leon Givens, Billy Givens, and Bobby Givens.
Those who remain to celebrate his life and forever treasure his memory in their hearts include his wife of 51 years, Eunice, son Daryl Givens (Sheila) and daughter Shelby West (Robert), granddaughters, Charnay and Joyce. His sister Estella Walters, sister in-laws, Marilyn Givens, Alma Franklin and Lillian
Thomas, a host of nephews, nieces, other family members and a vast number of friends and church members.
