Dr. Theresa Escobedo, 90, of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on May 30, 2021. She was the wife of the late Nati Escobedo for 67 years, and was born in Aspermont, Texas on September 22, 1930 to Beatrice and Antonio Herrera.
Theresa Herrera Escobedo PhD was a tenured professor at The University of Texas at Austin in the College of Education in the Department of Early Childhood Curriculum and Instruction where she taught courses in early childhood, multicultural education, and parent involvement. She previously taught in the public schools of Texas and at Texas Tech University where she also received a master's and a doctorate in education. She was the director of the Project for Minorities and Women in Research, funded by the National Institute of Education. Her research and publications focused on early childhood education programs and learning styles of children from a multicultural perspective. Her articles in the areas of early childhood education and bilingual education appeared in various books and journals. She wrote two books, "Education and Chicanos: Issues and Research'' published by UCLA Press, and "Early Childhood Bilingual Education, A Hispanic Perspective" published by Teachers College Press of Columbia University.
Theresa's highest and deepest love was her family. She and Nati were very proud of their daughters and loved providing piano lessons, horses, ballet, gymnastics, cheer camps, twirling camps, and all the things in which young girls in Texas love to participate. Their highest thrill was watching their daughters go to college and receive their degrees in education. But her greatest joy was the birth of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to spend time with them and had a profound influence on their lives. EVERY time her grandchildren went to Mima's house, she baked cakes with them, made playdough with them, made homemade jelly with them, told them stories, read to them, played with them, and blessed them throughout their lives in more ways than can be named for as long as she lived. Her daughters and grandchildren consider her to be the greatest mother and Mima of all time.
Theresa is survived by her two daughters, Toni Escobedo Gore and her husband Rob Gore, and Gloria Escobedo Davidson and her husband David Davidson, her five grandchildren Michael Davidson and his wife Jenny Hughes Davidson, Natalie Gore Casey and her husband James Casey, Jonathan Gore and his wife Hailey Hanna Gore, Danielle Davidson and Joshua Davidson, and her five great-grandchildren Cameron Davidson, Mabry Davidson, Lyla Casey, Matty Gore, and Josie Casey.
