In Loving Memory Of Verdie D. Johnson
She arrived on December 29, 1938! A bouncing baby girl. Entrusted to the parentage of Alton
and Ocie Gardner whom the named VERDIE. Verdie was born in Anderson County.
Verdie accepted Christ at an early age at Providence Baptist Church in Montalba, Texas. She received her education in Palestine, where she graduated and moved to Fort Worth, Texas and united with Greater Antioch Baptist Church under the late Reverend Charles B. Kelly in her late teens. Verdie worked on the usher board tirelessly, until her health started to decline and remained a member until her death.
After moving to Fort Worth, she met the love of her life Charlie L. Johnson. Charlie and Verdie were united in holy matrimony on February 7, 1958. In this union they had Lenette, Lisha, Rodney and also welcomed Thomas Earl. They remain a loving couple until his death July 5, 2001.
She is preceded by her parents, sisters, Elsie Swanson and Edna Mae Gardner; brothers, Clinton Gardner and Johnny Jackson.
On Thursday, November 25, 2021 at the age of 82 Verdie crossed the gates of eternity to Lie in the Corridors of Eternal Rest.
She shall forever be remembered in the hearts of her late husband Charlie L. Johnson (Smiley), her children, Lenette, Lisha, Rodney and Thomas Earl; sister, Ruth (Tommy), Valley (Robert Jr.), Vertie Harrison; and brother, Artis Brooks Gardner; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
