Verlin Earl Houdek was born on December 21, 1943, one mile south of Munden, Kansas, on the family farm. He passed away on the 10th of January at the age of 82 yrs. at the Mira Vista Nursing Home in Fort Worth, Texas.
He grew up in the Munden, Kansas, area, graduating from Munden High School in 1961.
Verlin was one of Jehovah's Witnesses being baptized on Sept. 7, 1963, at a convention of Jehovah's Witnesses in Pasadena, California. He was devoted to his faith, serving as an elder in the Belleville, Kansas, and Briar Oaks, Burleson, Texas congregations. Verlin enjoyed sharing his faith with others in the door-to-door ministry as well as having Bible discussions in the homes of many interested people in the community. He gave many discourses at the Kingdom Halls where he served as well as in surrounding communities.
Verlin and Glenda were married on September 11, 1965, in Hutchinson, Kansas. To this union one daughter was born, Barbara Ann, on June 14, 1966. Verlin and Glenda were united in their faith.
Verlin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Glenda, and his daughter, Barbara Ann Roca and son in law Richard. Also, his sister, Marlene Stirling of Longview, Washington, nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends.
They lived in Hutchinson, Kansas, for the first year of their marriage, then moved to Verlin's hometown of Munden, Kansas, where they lived until their move to Fort Worth, Texas, in 2005 to be near their daughter.
In the mid 70's Verlin started his own tile floor, carpet and upholstery cleaning business until they moved to Texas.
Verlin was a kind, compassionate, and gentle man. He will be greatly missed by his family. Verlin believed that death is like a deep sleep from which he will be awakened and reunited with his family. He is in the best place possible now and that is in Jehovah's memory. He is sleeping in death until the time that Jehovah God will remember him through a resurrection. The words found in the Bible at John 5:28 are a great comfort for future blessings to come: "Do not amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out...."
