Vicki was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on July 22, 1947, to Virgil Boyer and Mary Jane Boyer (née Rainey). On September 14, 1963, she married the love of her life, Jack Yarnell, beginning a partnership rooted in love, devotion, and shared ministry that spanned more than six decades. After moving to Texas in 1968, Vicki and Jack became charter members of Compass Church in Colleyville, then known as Bedford Christian Church.
Vicki carried a lifelong calling to the mission field, and in 1975 she and Jack courageously answered that call by relocating to Mexico City. There, they devoted over 25 years to ministry, opening their hearts and home as mom and dad to 40 children whom they loved and considered their own. Her nurturing spirit, unwavering faith, and boundless love left an indelible mark on generations of lives.
Upon returning to the United States in 1994, Vicki continued to serve others through her work with several organizations, including Compass Church and G.R.A.C.E., while also successfully owning and operating multiple businesses. A woman of many talents and interests, she found joy in deep Bible study, painting, and photography, often using her creativity as another way to reflect God’s beauty. Above all, Vicki treasured her relationship with Jesus, her beloved husband Jack, and her family.
Left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy is her devoted husband of 62 years, Jack Yarnell.
She is also lovingly remembered by her children: Genie Effland (David), Michele Quigley (Ken), Anthony Yarnell (Alejandra), and Mario Yarnell-Gonzalez (Stacy).
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Michael Effland (Emily), Joel Effland, Matthew Effland (Krista), Emily Quigley, James Quigley (Genny), Anthony Yarnell Jr., Sofia Cervantes (Angel), and Steven Yarnell-Gonzalez; and her great-grandchildren: Andrew Effland, Evan Effland, and Eliel Cervantes.
Also, her sister Terri GrayEagle and nephews Jeremiah and Nicolas and nieces Charlotte and Mariloren
Vicki’s life was enriched by her larger-than-life extended family, dear friends, and the many children who had the privilege of calling her Mami, Tía, Aba, sister, and friend. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, unwavering faith, and the way she made everyone feel deeply loved.
A celebration of life will be held at Compass Church in Colleyville, Texas, on February 14, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
