Weldon Gene Hudgins, 90, passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. Born November 8, 1933 in Anna, Texas to Leonard and Opal Hudgins, Weldon was the third oldest of seven siblings.
At the age of 20, he joined the National Guard, before marrying Jane Elizabeth Record. In 1953, the couple would go on to be married for 61 years. They started married life in Fort Worth Texas, welcoming their first child in 1955 (David Hudgins), with their second child following soon after in 1960 (Janice Crank). The family then moved to Burleson Texas in 1971. Weldon joined the workforce at an early age. He began driving concrete trucks and would later go on to become Vice President of the Gifford Hill Concrete Company working for the company for 40 years. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors for multiple programs including the crisis intervention program and TACA. Weldon retired in 1991, but continued to be active in the community engaging in property management, mechanics, livestock ownership, and anything that might require a tractor!
Weldon was a man of God. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for 16+ years and demonstrated his faithfulness all his life by caring for others. He built a lifelong legacy growing and fostering relationships with any and all he came across. It was often said that he would give the shirt off his back if he saw you were in need. He was a caring and devoted friend. Those that loved him will miss those daily morning chats at the local diner over breakfast and a hot cup of coffee. They will miss sitting around the kitchen table playing a game of cards or dice, the “Just called to check on you” calls, all of his life stories and wise advice “Get a plan, work the plan!”
Weldon was a devoted family man. Those that were close to him have treasured memories of fishing adventures, hunting trips, and meaningful dinner gatherings.
Weldon was preceded in death by his wife, Jane E Hudgins; brothers; parents, Leonard and Opal Hudgins; and brothers, Billy D Hudgins and Leonard Lee Hudgins.
Weldon is survived by his daughter, Janice Crank (Tom); son, David Hudgins (Barbara); granddaughter, Chelsea Crank; grandson, Bryan Hudgins; great grandchildren, Jaxton Johnson, Brylee Hudgins, Erin Smith; sisters, Wanda Schaeffler, Nina Thrasher, Joyce Krupa, Lois Anderson; brother, Allen Hudgins and
