Wesley, who you all know and love by the name of Wes, was born on September 6, 1950, in Dearborn, Michigan, to his parents, Richard Lang and Virginia Violet Thompson.
He grew up in Michigan until age 10, and then his family relocated to San Diego, California, in his younger adolescence. He attended Grossmont College in California and then served for four years in the United States Army Reserve.
After his time in the service, his flourishing photography career brought him to Dallas, TX. He began attending church at Shady Grove, where he met and fell in love with Sharon. They were married on May 9, 1987, in Southlake, TX.
Wes owned his own business and was a successful architectural photographer for 30+ years until he retired in 2009. When he wasn’t working, he found great joy in serving others through the ministries that he was involved in.
One of the ministries that he served in over the years was Mercy Heart Ministries through their home church, Glenview in Haltom City. Wes served in Mercy Heart by cooking every for the families of locally incarcerated men. He was also involved in a weekly men's Bible Study, and he had a ball playing his harmonica in the Ukulele band which performed across the metroplex.
After retiring from his career, he found joy and purpose in partnering alongside Sharon in her career and during that season, made many friends at The Chateau on Wildbriar Lake. Whether serving in the kitchen, running errands or simply entertaining the residents by telling his favorite jokes, he was a light wherever he was and had friends wherever he went.
In his leisure, he found his passion in cooking for others and playing the piano for whoever would listen to him. Whether for a select few or for a room full of people, he could always put on a good show. Even the day before he went to heaven, he spent some time at the piano playing “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” for an audience of one.
He is preceded in death by his parents as well as his father and mother-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Thompson, his children: daughter, Genevieve McCarthy and her husband Des, his son, Cameron, daughter Ami Evans and her husband Dan, daughter Amanda Burgett and her husband Tom, and daughter Andrea Hatchett.
He is also survived by his siblings: younger brother Richard Thompson and younger sister Brenda Neill and her husband Doug.
Wes leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Cillian and Leo McCarthy, Amelia Thompson, Alek and Zach Evans, Taya, Teegan and TJ Burgett, and Adelyn and Isla Hatchett.
His kindness and light-hearted spirit will be missed by all who were blessed to know him, but we take comfort in knowing that we do not grieve without hope. Because of our Savior’s love, we will be together again.
