To my friend Yolanda,

When I met you in high school, we had an instant connection.  You were always so free spirited, daring the world to stop you from doing whatever you wanted to do.  You had the most beautiful smile!  One of the best memories I have of you is after my graduation in 1983, that summer you and I worked together at Roosevelt.  You were such a DARE DEVIL!!  I wanted to follow the rules, and just do our job, but no, you had other things in mind!  I remember when you convinced me to climb onto the rooftop of the elementary school, which was cool, until I spotted the superintendent and assistant superintendent outside!  I ran back inside, but you, no, you kept on jumping from one part of the roof to the other, unbeknownst to Mr. Taylor and Mr. Clanton!  Girl, you kept me laughing the whole summer!  Another time, we were cleaning out the closet in the atrium, when lo and behold, you found student papers and grades!  You struck gold and kept digging, all the while I was sweating bullets, for I knew we were gonna get caught!  Sure enough, Mr. Clanton opens the door outta nowhere!  The look on your face as you held test grades!  He just looked at you and rolled his eyes, as you distracted him by giving him his mail!  

To your beautiful family, my condolences to you all, such a huge loss.  Thank you Lord for giving me the privilege to have called Yolanda my friend.

Yaya, you definitely left a trail of great memories. As a great mom, lovely wife and awesome friend. I will always cherish the great moments we shared together, we laughed, cried and created great memories that united us as great friends for life. You were a God sent blessing in my life throughout your life you taught me to never give up and the fight you fought you fought it with pride. I am so proud of you my friend! Joe and family, I am deeply saddened for your loss and am praying for God's comforting hand of peace to be on you. I know that you celebrate the life that your wife/mother lived and poured into you and that you look forward to being reunited with her in heaven one day.

My love and thoughts go out to the entire Matos family, especially Elias, Yesi, and Mari. Your mother was one of the strongest women I have ever known, and I think it comes as a surprise to many to have lost her. Thank you Yolanda, for fostering a love of music in your children, they will continue to make you proud.

What a blessing to have had you in my life and be part of the Warrior Women Volleyball team with you as well as a hard working & dedicated band parent who was always there to support your kids as well as others kids doing whatever was asked of you.  You are and will always be in our hearts and missed forever.

I was privileged to have been friends with Yolanda for many years.  We have shared many things together - laughter, tears, joy, sadness, working for the Lord, stories of our children but most importantly we shared our hearts.  We were two very different people, but we were united in Christ - a bond that can never be broken.  I look forward to the day when we can rejoice together again.  Sisters forever.  I love you, YO!

What a remarkable woman Yolanda was!  I was privileged to watch her as she nurtured her children when they were at the DBU Lab School.  She was always ready to lend a hand.  Later on, I have come to appreciate her courage and faith.  May God surround the family with peace and love as they journey through the grief of her loss.

Yolanda, Gods gifts that you shared with me, and others, live on. You were always the most ethical, living by the Biblical Standards. You are sorely missed.
