Born in Bethlehem, PA, on December 15, 1935, she was the daughter of Mary Ann (Zsido) Yanko. Eleanor left Bethlehem in her early 20s to become a flight attendant with Eastern airlines in the late 1950s and early 1960s. With Boston as her main hub, she was introduced to her future husband, Dale, by their landlady, as they both resided in apartments in the same Beacon Street building. After a short courtship, Eleanor and Dale were married March 1963. Eleanor passed away just 11 days before their 58th anniversary.
During their long and fruitful marriage, Eleanor moved with Dale to Long Island, NY, Chicago, IL, and Los Angeles, CA, before settling in Sudbury, MA in 1973, where she resided the rest of her life.
Beyond her husband, Dale, she is survived by three sons: D. Charles (Chuck) Casto, of Sudbury, MA; Jeffrey Grant Casto of S. Orange, NJ; and Daniel Richard Casto of Brooklyn Heights, NY. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Chloe Elizabeth Casto, Madeline Minh Chau Casto, and August Kinh Caius Casto, as well as her daughters-in-law Hanh Truong and Elise Casto; her son-in-law, Jeffrey Loura; her cousin and godchild, Mary Frances (Zsido) Paini of Easton, PA, her cousin, Louis F. Zsido, Jr. (and his wife, Ann), of Bethlehem, PA, and her niece, Cheryl (Harvey) Dahlin (and her husband, Dale), of Tampa, FL, as well as many other beloved relatives.
Eleanor was a great wife, a magnificent mother and mother-in-law, and an exceptional grandmother. She will be missed every day by the many relatives, friends and neighbors who loved her.
Eleanor grew up in poverty with little fatherly guidance. Despite these early challenges, she managed to improve her life significantly and raised three sons to become very dedicated and loving Dads, a legacy that will set her family up for success for generations to come.
She raised her kids to be optimistic, to uplift others whenever possible, and to believe in themselves. She also gave some of the best advice, and told very entertaining stories, based on her very long memory.
She was artistic, a wonderful gardener, and an unparalleled animal lover. Her family members are sure she’s surrounded in Heaven by many loving pets, both hers earlier in life, as well the countless neighborhood cats and dogs who spent the last 48 years visiting her in Sudbury.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests that any donations in her name be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or to the North Shore Animal League.
