For anyone who knew her, traveling was her passion, second only to the love she had for her family and friends. She traveled extensively, although with no sense of direction her trips were often via the “scenic route”. She love camping with family groups and later traveled to foreign lands.
She was one of the last switchboard operators at Ma Bell, having worked there early in her career. She also worked at Wellesley College and Dana Hall School in Wellesley for many years. She was no stranger to hard work, having been a single mother for many years.
Being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was her greatest joy. She was the glue that held everyone together. Caring for friends and family was a gift she gave eagerly and frequently. She not only raised 5 children but was a care giver to most of her grandchildren as well. Her love of children extended to friends of her children and grandchildren. She was known in her neighborhood for always having treats for everyone, be it cakes and brownies to the ever popular homemade popsicles.
The door to her home was always open and most friends and neighbors just walked in like it was their own home, because that’s exactly how she made them feel, at home. She loved to have as many people as she could to every event and holiday. She was famous for her Halloween parties where kids could dunk for apples, battle for a donut hanging from a string and the always crazy pinatas. Christmas gatherings with wrapping paper fights and gatherings in her backyard with swimming, the occasional “friendly” badminton game and beautiful views of “Feeley Cove”. We will miss her smile, laughter and wonderful sense of humor. She was predeceased by her only sibling, Elizabeth (Betty) Ahern.
She is survived by her children, Robert and his wife Joani (Campana) of Natick, Janet Sinclair and her husband Terry of Framingham, Joanne Slaney, of Rock Hill, SC, Daniel and his wife Debbie (Kaloustian) of Natick and Barbara Kennedy and her husband Wayne of Natick. She was also the most doting Nana to 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Per her request there will be no calling hours.
Donations are welcome to the Mary Ann Morse Health Care Center where she received wonderful care this last year: http://maryannmorse.org.
