
Laura (Read) Harris died peacefully Saturday, Dec. 21 at Shrewsbury Crossings. Widow of Charles H. Harris, she leaves a son, Leonard Harris and wife Nancy of Westborough and daughter, Priscilla Di Bona and husband Adolfo of Felton, DE, four grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Born in Framingham, MA April 3, 1915, daughter of Clifford and Cora (Hallgreen) Read, she lived most of her life on Brook Street. She spent her final time at Shrewsbury Crossings in Shrewsbury, MA.
Laura was very close to her parents and four brothers: Kenneth, Wilbur, Lester, and William. Her many nephews and nieces were like flowers in her expanding garden of family. Her grandchildren: Daniel, Robert and Alexandra Di Bona and William Harris were a source of great pride and joy. Her great-grandchildren brought her immense delight.
While her husband served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, Laura was employed at Dennison Manufacturing. When ‘Charlie’ returned home from New Caledonia, Laura returned to her preferred place as housewife. Laura enjoyed tending to her house and garden and was also an avid reader.
Laura attended school in Framingham and was a self-taught seamstress. She fashioned many of her own clothes by hand as well as her daughter’s wedding gown. She was skilled at crocheting and knitting and supported her church and family with many hand-crafted items.
Laura was an active member of Park Street Baptist Church in downtown Framingham. She served as a deaconess for many years, taught Sunday school, attended Bible studies, and visited shut-ins regularly.
