On Tuesday, March 29, 2011, a sad day for the ones who knew him, the clouds opened up and the sun came out as our beloved Dixie William Spencer began a new journey. Dixie was born on October 31, 1928, the second of four children to Brack and Dolly Spencer in Miamisburg, Ohio. When he was three years old the family settled in Frenchburg, Kentucky where he lived until he married the love of his life Jean. The couple lived a short time in Middletown, Ohio later making their permanent home in Franklin, Ohio where they raised three wonderful sons. Dixie was an employee of Armco Steel, now AK Steel, for forty-three years retiring in February 1991. After retiring from AK Steel, Dixie, not being the sit down type worked at ADESA Auto Auction in Franklin for seven years. There he met and made many new friends which was not a difficult thing for him, since he never met a starnger, he was always kind to everyone and a good example of how one should live. Lung and heart problems became difficult for him to continue working and Jean insisted it was time he hung up his work hat. Jean and Dixie then did some fishing, their favorite hobby for from previous years. Always competing to see who could catch the most or the bigger one. It wouldn't be fair to say who won. Dixie was a member of the Corner Stone Community Church in Franklin. The family would like to thank Pastor Lonnie Peters for the many visits to the home after they were unable to attend services because of his illness. Dixie was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Glenn and Merlin Spencer all from Frenchburg, Kentucky. He is survived by his caring wife Jean of sixty-three years and three sons: Dixie, Terry, and Mark. Dixie's wife Debie their two children: daughter Stacey Sermak, her husband Andrew, their three children Rosie, Kildie, and Ian. Son Zackary, his wife Dyanee, and their two children Gavin and Emma. Amanda's husband Jason, their three children Wyatt, Lily, and Natalie and Steven's wife Hannah. This completes their immediate family. Other close family members are a dear sister, Elizabeth Williams who resides at Otterbein Retirement Home. A sister-in-law Patty Spencer widow of Marlin, their two sons; Kim his wife Karen, Gregg his wife Teresa. Great nephews Chris, Jacob, and Joshua Spencer all from Frencburg, Kentucky. Long time dear friends; Carol and Leroy Rogers of Iowa, Sharon and Joe Rice, and Faye Durham from Franklin, Ohio always there to lend a helping hand. A special thank you to Dr. Mark Frazier, Dr. Phuong Voung, and Dr. David Miller for their loving care. Also the nursing staff of Atrium Hospital and Liberty Nursing Center. It goes withou saying that Dixie will be sorely missed. The comfort is that he suffers no more pain.
