Donald Smethers

Donald Lee Smethers, 64, went on to be with our Lord on February, 5, 2018. Don was born in Bowling Green, Ohio on November 17, 1953 to Willis and Barbara (Flanders) Smethers. They moved to Middletown when he was six months old and was raised in Middletown his whole life. Don graduated in 1973 from Middletown High School where he ran Cross County. He worked at the Jug for approximately 20 years and was known as "Joyce". He also worked for the Middletown School System as custodian for 38 years and also drove the food truck for eight years bringing food to the schools in Middletown for the children. Don loved children and the children especially loved him. As they said, "He is our Hero!" He worked at Roosevelt and Rosedale Elementary Schools and actually followed in his great-grandfather's footsteps who was also a custodian after coming to America from Austria. He was also an acolyte at The Church of Ascension for many years as a teenager. Don was a frequent visitor at car shows, where he would buy and sell old license plates. He also loved to go to the Flea Market and had a passion for fishing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and great-nephews, Connor and Brady Mullins. He is survived by his wife, Linda Smethers; son, Jason (Pam) Smethers; daughter, Patricia (Jimmie) Hayes; brother, Richard (Victoria) Smethers; sisters, Sharon Smethers, Cindy (Tim) Carlson; nephews, Benjamin (Kelli) Frisby and Steve Carlson; nieces, Nicole Smethers, Sarah Ratliff, Lauren (Zachary) Kerns, Stacy Smethers and Meg Carlson. Great nieces, Anna Kerns, Audrey Link, Molly and Morgan Frisby. Great nephews, Jordan and Evan Mullins and soon, the birth of Cullen Kerns.

Visitation will be held from 11-1pm on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Breitenbach Anderson Funeral Home, 517 South Sutphin St, Middletown, OH on Friday, February 9, 2018

Funeral services will follow at 1pm with Pastor Jack Woodward officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery immediately following the service.
