Garen Robert Moffatt, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly on March 12, 2025, at the age of 64, leaving behind a legacy of love and treasured memories. He was born in Point Pleasant, New Jersey on December 28, 1960, to the late Robert Allen Moffatt and Marilyn Doris Moffatt Thompson (née Dettmar). He was raised in Spring Lake and Sea Girt and attended Manasquan High School.
Garen was known for his infectious sense of humor and unyielding compassion for others, and often the former was a vehicle for the latter. Undeterred by bad days and adversity, he drew and freely distributed mirth and ebullience from even the darkest surroundings, and cultivated friendships effortlessly wherever he went. His family enjoyed the privilege of singing and laughing through even the most monotonous and insignificant moments of life; any and everything could be and was adorned with a tune or rhythm apt for repetition. Countless displays of his elegant and meticulously laid tile remain scattered across the country – each completed with the same resolute passion and assiduousness he lent to all of his work. He was often the happiest while on camping trips with his family or chasing pasta with chocolate and Perrier. Garen poured love from a bottomless cup, and was a fortress of interminable safety and unconditional adoration for his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John Scott Moffatt and Devon James Moffatt; nephew Devon Robert Kuehnen; and stepfather Fred Thompson. He is survived by his wife and best friend Tisha (née Cress); daughter Marlee (Logan); daughter Taylor (Josh); daughter Bobbie; sister Dana (Dean); stepbrother Derick “Monk” Thompson; sister-in-law Debbie; many cousins, including Casey (Nancy) Dowd and “partner-in-crime” Michael O’Connor; nephews Dean (Sasha) Kuehnen, Eric (Kristyn) Kuehnen, and Zack (Katelyn) Dawson; and eight grandchildren: Landon, Jensen, Athena, Bailey, Emma, Austin, Alivia, and Elijah. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial at Newspring Church in Springboro on Friday, March 21st at 4:30 PM.
