Gene was wonderful friend and a great mentor as he led me through my younger years as an educator, administrator, friend and coach.  The Edgewood School District was what it was due to people like Gene.

I am so sorry to learn of the passing of my friend, Gene Smith.  Gene and I worked together at Kings High School back in the 1960’s.  Gene was a wonderful coach, but even a better person.  I. offer my sincerest condolences to Sharon and the family.

Gene was a great man and a great storyteller!  He was the best!  My deepest sympathy to Sharon, Stephanie, Adrienne, Candy, Joyce, Kenny, his grandchildren, and the entire extended family.

My sincere condolences to the Smith Family.  My memories of Gene Smith were at Kings High School in the early 1970's where he was my basketball coach but more importantly my math teacher.  One of the best teachers I had at Kings and helped prepare me for college.  He was smart, fair, prepared and led by example by always displaying good sportsmanship.  He could be tough but demanded we always give it our best.  He will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Adrienne, Mrs. Smith, Kenny, and the whole family.  I loved when I was a young coach stopping to see Mr. Smith at the state basketball tournaments.  we would talk about Adrienne, his family, and basketball.  He got me an interview at Edgewood for the basketball position and out of the four who interviewed me he voted for me to get the job.  It meant a lot to that he believed in me.  I just loved the way he always made you feel about yourself.  He had a great family, with a beautiful home, and he was a great educator who impacted many kids.  I will think of his kindness and friendship over the years.  I am sorry I will not be able to attend Saturday.  We play Bellbrook.  I believe Mr. Smith would understand.

Sorry to hear of Genes passing. I am in Florida, and will be unable to attend, but I will always cherish our time at Edgewood and the golf cart rides at Miami

I went to church and school with Gene. He was always a gentleman and a very intelligent man. I always saw him to be a loving husband and devoted father. When I lived in Franklin, I used to take my little girl to get doughnuts in the morning and I would often run into Gene with his beautiful little blond haired daughter getting doughnuts also. It was obvious he adored his family. He made the world the better place and that is what we are here for. My condolences go to Sharon, his daughters and the rest of his family. Gene was a treasured friend and will be missed greatly.  No one could tell old stories as good as he could.  We extend our deepest sympathy to his family.

Gene was a great brother-in-law.  He was very family oriented and loved his family and friends. He was like a second dad to my son, Gus, and would take him to play off basketball games in Columbus, fishing trips to Canada and all the family would spend many weekends boating at Cumberland Lake.
He had a great memory and worked at the Post Office early on while attending college and could recite everyone's address in Franklin.  He loved to reminisce about old times in Franklin, people and where businesses were located.
He will be greatly missed and so will the many wonderful Thanksgiving dinners he prepared and entertaining stories he shared.  
Heaven received someone very special on Monday.
