Jim graduated from Fairmont East High School in 1973. He attended the Police Academy and worked as a police officer in Carlisle, Ohio, but his career of 28 years was spent as a Master Technician at Arena Dodge in Dayton, Ohio. He attended Sinclair Community College and enjoyed sharing his knowledge by training students from the Mopar CAP program for many years. He loved all things Science Fiction, and was a true “Trekkie”. He was known for his love of Star Trek and had a vast collection of memorabilia. Jim loved bowling, riding his motorcycles and spending time with his friends and family. He also enjoyed tearing anything mechanical apart to see how it worked and, as a hobby, he built computers and go carts. He was the go-to mechanic and all around Mr. Fix-It to those who knew him, as he worked on their cars in his spare time always ready to serve those he cared about. Although he faced many challenges and difficulties throughout his life, he maintained his wicked sense of humor and loved to tease and joke, always with a smile on his face.
Jim will be sorely missed by his loving family, loyal friends and the amazing staff at Village at The Greene, where he resided for the past 3 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Terry Hayes and his beloved wife of 23 years Mila (Brackney) Kilby, who he desperately missed for the last 10 years. He is survived by his children Michelle Allen (Rick) of Dayton, Melaine Betz (Tom) of Springboro, Shane Sherman (Briana) of Dayton and daughter Tiffany Davis (Joe) of Dayton. He is also survived by his siblings Linda Bell (Patrick) of Union, Kathy Clemmons (David) of Land-O-Lakes, Florida and Ken Luther (Barbie) of Tipp City, as well as sister-in-law Dona D’Angelo (Dan) of Markleville, Indiana and brother-in-law John Brackney (Carol) of New Carlisle. He was an uncle to Chris Bell (Jen), Betsy Sendoya (John), Sunny Robinson (Jeff), Jasmine D’Angelo, Dustin Luther (Alexis) and Cheyenne . He had 7 grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexis, William, Sterling, Christa, Tyler and Hailie and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and other extended family members. He was loved by his many dear friends “The Gang” who remained true friends his entire life. His nurses and aides at Village at The Greene took excellent care of Jim and became part of his extended family.
Final arrangements have been made through Anderson Funeral Home in Springboro, OH. A private family viewing and graveside service will take place, but Jim desired to have a party to celebrate his life, which will be open to anyone who would like to pay their respects. The memorial celebration will take place on Saturday, October 13th at Poelking Lanes South at 8871 Kingsridge Drive in Dayton, Ohio from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. Please visit www.anderson-fh.com to send an online condolence.
