Joelle Winifred Vegso, age 87, of Dayton, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at her home. Born in Detroit, Michigan on October 19, 1937, she was one of three children to the late Kenneth & Eleanor (Hanson) Meyers. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, her beautiful daughter Dovie Jill (Sooy) Emrick, her brother George "Corky" Meyers, and her daughter-in-law, Heidi Sooy.
Joelle is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Edward Vegso, whom she married on February 28, 1990. Her much-loved children, Monica Lynn Sooy, Lisa Janelle (Sooy) Cary & Joel, Norman Bruce Sooy, and Melanie Desiree (Sooy) Kain & John. Her stepchildren Robin (Vegso) Leach and Edward Vegso, Jr. & Ashley. She is also survived and loved by her grandchildren Ashley (Cary) Rich & Anthony, Brittany Cary, Joshua Cary & Kelli, Erika Sooy, Tori Sooy, Justin Emrick & Molly, Amanda Emrick, Tony Emrick & Kala, Jake Kain, and Emma Kain. Her step grandchildren Brody Leach and Abby, Emmy, and Jacob Vegso. Joelle also has eight beautiful great grandchildren.
Joelle graduated from Mt. Vernon Academy, Andrew’s University and Washington Missionary College where she became a Registered Nurse. She served as a kind and compassionate nurse at many hospitals and especially loved working in the maternity ward with the new mothers and the newborn babies. She also worked for her first husband's medical practice, and several nursing homes over the years. She attended Centerville Seventh Day Adventist Church as well as the Kettering Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Joelle’s life was devoted to God and her family. Her home was made from love. You instantly felt her loving warmth when you walked through her door. All were welcomed at any time, and all were greeted with a warm embrace and a kiss. She was an amazing artist through her love of sewing, quilting, rug hooking, needle point, knitting and crocheting. She lovingly handcrafted quilts, sweaters, baby blankets, baby booties, clothing, rugs, and more for her family and her many dear friends. Each piece was a timeless treasured gift. She also enjoyed cooking, traveling, gardening, reading, her many loved animals, and feeding and watching the outdoor birds. Her love for cooking and her many wonderful recipes were passed down through her teaching to her children and grandchildren. Her famous “Uncle Adolph’s Christmas Cookies” are a forever treasure to each one of us. Joelle had an amazing loving heart and a beautiful infectious laugh that will be missed by all who knew her.
Friends may call on the family from 11:00-12:00 PM on Monday, September 22, 2025 at the Anderson Funeral Home Springboro, 40 N. Main St, Springboro, Ohio 45066. Funeral service will follow at Noon with Pastor Andrea Jakobsons presiding.
