Joseph Eugene "Gene" Brandenburg, 85, Franklin, OH passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Hospice of Butler-Warren Counties. Gene was born in Franklin, OH on November 8, 1930 to the late Gordon and Dorotha (Green) Brandenburg. He lived his entire life in Franklin...except for spending his summers with relatives in Kentucky. He loved to call himself a "Buck-Briar".
Gene proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Converters Gravure in Middletown but couldn't stay a man of leisure and soon became employed with AutoZone in Franklin for 16 years. He was most recently employed at O'Reilly's Auto parts in Middletown until he became too ill to work in 2015. He was a hard worker...he really didn't know how "not to work". He worked for the better part of 70 yrs. Gene was a devoted husband to Maryjo for 36 yrs. until her death and he never got over losing her. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and "Great" grandfather who always provided for his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In his younger years Gene worked part time at a second job at Laynecrest Lanes as a desk clerk as well as drilling ALL of the bowling balls that most of the bowlers in the area bought for MANY years and then gave FREE instructions and coaching. Most of the Junior bowlers in the area have Gene to thank for teaching them to bowl and for drilling their balls for many years. Gene taught his daughter Lori to be quite a good bowler as well. He was also inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame of Middletown. He has a PERFECT 300 game to his credit which he achieved at his beloved Laynecrest Lanes as well as a few 700 series. He was also known for attending numerous ABC bowling tournaments which were held in different places all over the country each year. He also loved to play golf. He wasn't particularly "good" at it, but he loved to play as long as his body would allow him too. His ABC bowling tournament trips always included some golfing as well. In addition to his achievements in bowling he had also managed to score a PERFECT HOLE IN ONE on the golf course in his time. Another sign of his perfection was when he was playing darts in a league, he achieved a perfect "HAT TRICK" with 3 darts in the bull's-eye at the same time.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maryjo (Cafferty) Brandenburg; sisters, Ruth Green, Peggy Neiswender, Ethel Lopez; and brother Danny Brandenburg as well as a niece Jackie Tibbs and a nephew Larry Tibbs and his son Bryon. Gene will be greatly missed by his loving daughter, Lori (Mark) A. Wilson; granddaughter, Kristina (John) Eddings; great grandsons, Benjamin Mulholland, Xander Mulholland, Paul Harig Jr., Ronald Poff-Harig; and many nieces and nephews, as well as many loving friends.
Memorial services are Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 4 p.m. Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 East 2nd St., Franklin with Pastor Josh Clifford officiating. Private burial in Springboro Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Gene's daughter Lori, and granddaughter Kristi would greatly appreciate donations be made to their "Relay for Life" cancer walk, to be held on June 18, 2016, in lieu of flowers. Please make all donations for the team of "3 Peas in a Pod" (which symbolizes his wife Maryjo, Lori and Kristi) online to http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLCY16EC?pg=entry&fr_id=74487 .
