
Kim graduated from Carlisle High School in 1976, entered the United States Army as an enlisted man in 1977 and earned his commission in 1985 after graduating from Officer Candidate School. He earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Hospital Administration from Webster University and Southern Illinois University and graduated from Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, KS.
Kim served his country in multiple duty stations and in many roles, such as platoon leader of the 82nd Airborne, company commander in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, in the Office of the Surgeon General at the Pentagon and as a hospital administrator at West Point, NY. One of his greatest achievements was his role at the 101st Airborne (Assault) in Fort Campbell, KY which included the construction and operation of a multi-million dollar health care facility for soldiers and their families. Kimbrell earned many honors throughout his distinguished military career including Junior Officer Champion, the Legion of Merit, Expert Field Medical Badge, and Commandant’s Award before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2005. Most proudly, Kim served the Lord our God, his country, his family, and the thousands of soldiers and personnel under his charge.
Kim enjoyed softball and played on multiple championship teams during his military career. He also enjoyed playing with the church league and his dear friends and fellow deacons from Living Hope Baptist Church in Clarksville, TN where he served as the Chairman of the Deacons for 10 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years Melody; daughter Dr. Jamie Bobulsky (Dr. Gregory) and granddaughter Emma; father Bernard Swindall, sister Cynthia Lawson (Tom), and brothers Tim (Anna) and Patrick (Loanda). He is also survived by the countless friends and lives that he touched through his ministries, testimony, strength, and unwavering love of life and his Lord.
Visitation will be at 11am with service to follow at 12pm on Monday, November 20th at Anderson Funeral Home, 40 North Main St., Springboro, OH. Burial will follow at 2:30pm with full military honors at Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 West Third St., Dayton, OH. The service will be officiated by Rev. Greg Moore and Dr. Derek Smith of Living Hope Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Col. (Ret) Curt Higdon, LTC (Ret) Bill Huggins, LTC Ryan Miedema, Jerry Drury, Dr. Gregory Bobulsky and Acie Wyatt Jr. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://shop.stjude.org/GiftCatalog/donation.do?pID=24671)
