
Larry C. Gingrich, age 83 of Coshocton, Ohio, went to be with his wife and into the arms of his God November 15, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born on July 2, 1934 to the parents of Clarence A. and Ruth A. (nee Sheley) Gingrich, and lived most of his life in Middletown and Trenton, Ohio.
He retired in 2012 and moved to be near his daughter in Coshocton, Ohio. Larry graduated from Middletown High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Bluffton University and a Master's degree in Education from Indiana University. He served in the U.S. Army stationed in the Washington D.C. area. Honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant E-6 serving two years active service. After serving in the U.S. Army he started teaching 8th and 11th grade American History at Elida High School in the Lima Area. After teaching there for seven years he became Principal at Leipsic High School, then Principal and Athletic Director at Vinton County High School. The last 11 years as an educator, he served as the first Superintendent of MRDD in Vinton County. He retired from his 35 years in education in 1994. After retirement he continued work at Miller Brewery in Trenton as Superintendent of Maintenance, and worked as a Security Officer at General Electric in the Cincinnati area.
During his retirement years he served on the Trenton Mennonite Church Board, and Mennonite Chrisholm Board of Directors. He also was active as a 3rd degree Blue Lodge Mason of Jefferson Lodges #90, 32th Scottish Rite Mason of Dayton, a York Rite Mason of Middletown and a Antioch Shriner of Dayton. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
Larry is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Shirley, and his parents. He is survived by his son, Chad Gingrich; daughter, Darby Cognion; five grandchildren, Jordan and Cole Cognion, Chase Gingrich and Brian and Chad Downey; and sister, JoAnn Smith.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 1pm at Breitenbach Anderson Funeral Home, 517 South Sutphin Street, Middletown with Pastor Ron Wenzel officiating. A Masonic Service will take place at 12:45pm. Visitation will be 11am-1pm prior to the service. Burial will be at Trenton Mennonite Cemetery, Trenton, OH.
