
Leonard W. Rockwell, age 93, of Middletown, passed away Sunday morning at the Atrium Medical Center. He was born in Richmond, Indiana, September 19, 1917, the son of Stanton and Carrie Rockwell. He proudly volunteered for the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving over 5 years. While stationed in Saipan, he was one of the few who witnessed the takeoffs and landings of the B-29s who practiced and then dropped the atomic bombs on the Japanese Empire, which ended the war. Mr. Rockwell worked for the Water Treatment Plant at the City of Middletown, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul�s United Church of Christ since 1949. He also formerly belonged to the Middletown Kiwanis Club, the Odd Fellows Lodge in Richmond, IN, American Legion Post 218, the Public Employee Retirees, Jefferson Masonic Lodge # 90, and was a Life Member of both the Amvets and the VFW Post # 3809. His beloved wife, Catherine Louise, preceded him in death in 1978. He is survived by his son, James Rockwell of Middletown; and 3 nieces, Elaine Goodwin of Richmond IN, Ann Gish of Acworth GA, and Linda Ebaugh of Colorado Springs CO. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 6, at Earlham Cemetery in Richmond Indiana, officiated by Pastor Susan Jones Thompson.
