

Richard F. "Dick" Atkinson, age 85, of Middletown passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Atrium Medical Center. He was born January 3, 1927 in Middletown, Ohio to Joseph J. and Cecelia D. Sullivan Atkinson. Richard served in the U.S. Navy 1944-46 during World War II in the South Pacific on a submarine tender. He worked at Armco/AK Steel for 43 years as a Blast Furnace Maintenance Repairman. Also, attended OMI in Cincinnati and was a TV repairman for many years. He is a past Worshipful Master from 1969 to 1970 of Jefferson Lodge #90 F&AM and was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton. After retirement, he lived at Lake Cumberland, Monticello, Kentucky for 13 years before returning to Middletown in 2002. He enjoyed life and his family. He is preceded in death by both parents. Survived by his wife of 65 years Zola Mae McGuire Atkinson; one son, Rick Myra Atkinson; one daughter, Carolyn Doug McCabe; three grandchildren, Mark Jennifer Atkinson, Kara and Kelli McCabe; three great grandchildren, Jake and Luke Atkinson, Kami McCabe; and one brother, Joe Atkinson, Jr. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Middletown, 3909 Central Avenue, Middletown, Ohio 45044.
